Best Places to See the Severn Bore in 2026

There are several fantastic vantage points along the River Severn where you can watch the bore in all its glory:

  • Newnham-on-Severn – Standing in the churchyard on the high cliff offers a panoramic view of a three to four-mile stretch, as the bore navigates the Horseshoe Bend.
  • Minsterworth – One of the most popular viewing locations. The road runs close to the river, and great access points include the Severn Bore Inn, the old ferry, and the church.
  • Lower Parting – A fascinating spot to see the bore as it splits into two river channels.
  • Manor Ditch – Located about ¾ mile downstream from Lower Parting, this is where the bore can reach its highest point—sometimes up to ten feet high—as it surges around a sharp bend.
  • Maisemore Bridge – A unique place to witness the reflex wave, where the bore rebounds and flows back downstream approximately 10 minutes after hitting the weir.
  • Over Bridge – A convenient and popular spot near Gloucester, offering a great view of the bore’s final approach before it fades due to weirs near the city.
