The Shawshank Redemption Tour Coming to Cheltenham

The Shawshank Redemption Cheltenham

The Shawshank Redemption is coming to Cheltenham as the acclaimed stage adaptation returns to tour the UK, bringing this gripping production to the Everyman Theatre on 14 February

Bill Kenwright Ltd has announced that The Shawshank Redemption will continue its national UK tour in 2026, with Cheltenham confirmed as a headline stop at the Everyman Theatre this February.

Adapted by Owen O’Neill and Dave Johns from Stephen King’s 1982 novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, the stage production explores desperation, injustice, friendship and hope inside the claustrophobic walls of a maximum-security prison.

Starring Joe McFadden as the wrongly convicted Andy Dufresne, Ben Onwukwe as inmate Ellis Red Redding and Bill Ward as the corrupt prison warden Stammas, the story follows Andy’s fight to survive after receiving a double life sentence for the murder of his wife and her lover, despite protesting his innocence.

Inside Shawshank, Andy learns quickly that no one makes it through alone. An unlikely friendship forms with Red, the prison fixer, and for a moment life begins to shift. But when the warden forces Andy into subservience and exploits his accountancy skills for personal gain, a desperate plan is quietly set in motion.

The production builds on the legacy of the 1994 film starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, which received seven Academy Award nominations and has since become one of the nation’s best-loved films.

With its tense atmosphere and powerful performances, the Cheltenham date promises to be a standout moment of the 2026 tour and a must-see night at the Everyman Theatre.
