Tewkesbury Choral Society Presents 'The Verdi Requiem' at Tewkesbury Abbey
Saturday 16 May 2026
Tewkesbury Choral Society presents its May Concert with a powerful performance of Verdi’s Requiem at Tewkesbury Abbey.
Composed in 1874 as a tribute to the Italian writer and statesman Alessandro Manzoni, Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem is widely regarded as one of the pinnacles of the choral repertoire. The work combines operatic drama with deeply moving choral writing, creating a thrilling musical journey from the hushed opening of the Kyrie to the dramatic vision of judgement in the Dies Irae.
Moments of great intensity sit alongside passages of serene beauty, including the tranquil Agnus Dei and the powerful choral fugue of the Libera me which brings the work to its unforgettable close.
Performed by more than 100 singers from Tewkesbury Choral Society, alongside a stellar line-up of soloists and the acclaimed Regency Sinfonia, the concert is conducted by John Holloway.
Set within the magnificent surroundings of Tewkesbury Abbey, this promises to be an inspiring evening of outstanding choral music.
